Wairarapa
The Wairarapa region is located in the south east corner of New Zealand's North Island just over one hour from Wellington city. Wairarapa is a rural region with 'off-the beaten track' charm and premium wines, gourmet food, historic towns and wildlife.Martinborough and Greytown are both picturesque villages known for their heritage buildings, stylish cafes and restaurants, specialty shops and of course, wines, particularly Pinot Noir. Tour the vineyards and visit the Martinborough Wine Centre to taste many wines from the region's 26 wineries.
There are plenty of adventure activities on offer in unspoilt Wairarapa including quad bikes, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, jet boat rides, hot air ballooning, fishing, hiking, horse treks and surfing.
Cape Palliser, the most southern point of the North Island, has a resident breeding colony of New Zealand fur seals and many of New Zealand's endangered native birds can be seen at the Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre.
